책소개
지난해 영어 세계여행 판타지 소설 ‘Fly to the World’를 전자북으로 출간해 화제를 모았던 토종 중학생 조은비(글로리아, 재현중 3) 양이 두 번 째 작품으로 미리가본 여수 EXPO를 주제로 영어 홍보 책자를 완성했다.
한 번도 외국 유학을 가본적이 없고 어학연수도 가본적이 없는 토종(?) 여중생이 쓴 영어 환타지 소설이후 두 번째 작품으로 학교 생활과 시험 준비 중간 중간에 독학을 하면서 글을 쓰게 되었다. 올해 초 설날에 엄마의 고향이고 할머니가 살고 있는 여수에서 열리는 엑스포의 성공을 기원하기 위하여 시작한 작품은 3개월 동안 쓴 작품이다.
여수 엑스포 시설 하나 하나를 꼼꼼히 홈페이지를 살펴보고 직접 홍보관을 두 번이나 찾아가서 일일이 발로 뛰어 사진을 찍고, 직접 주인공이 되어 사진 모델역할을 자원하였다. 여수엑스포 마스코트 Yeony와 Suny를 등장시켜 대화체로 설명한 방식이 눈에 띈다. 여수의 가볼만한 여행지와 특산물도 직접 소개하였다.
여수 EXPO의 특화시설인 빅오, 스카이타워, 엑스포디지털갤러리를 비롯하여 주제관, 한국관, 기후환경관, 해양산업기술관, 해양문명도시관, 해양생물관, 해양산업기술관, 지자체관, 국제기구관, 기업관, 해양로봇관 등의 중요한 전시관은 모두 설명하였다.
여수엑스포 SNS 서포터즈로서 페이스북에서 왕성한 활동을 하고 있으며, 세계직장인 기독교 선교회 여수 엑스포 홍보대사로 바쁘게 활동하고 있다.
여수세계엑스포가 `살아있는 바다, 숨쉬는 연안`을 주제로 5월 12일부터 8월 12일까지 93일간 여수신항 일대에서 열린다.
미국의 뉴스 전문 채널 CNN이 발표한 「2012년에 꼭 가 봐야 할 최고의 여행지 7곳」1위에 여수세계박람회 개최지인 ‘여수’가 선정되었다.
그만큼 여수세계엑스포는 지난 1993년 대전엑스포 이후 최대 큰 행사로 여수에서 펼쳐지는 것이다. 여수 세계 엑스포는 세계인의 축제로 106개 나라에서 참가하여 1000만 명이 넘는 인파가 찾을 것으로 기대된다. 그러기에 영어로 된 한권의 홍보 가이드 책이 요구되는 시점이었다.
이 책은 5개의 챕터로 구성되어 특히 영어에 관심이 많은 학생들에게는 교육적인 측면이 있고, 외국인에게는 여수 엑스포 방문에 대한 기대감과 가이드 역할을 하기에 충분하다
현재 이 책은 미국 Amazon과 애플 iBooks를 통해 전 세계를 통해 무료로 알려지고 있으며, 2012 여수세계박람회 공식 홈페이지에 연결되어 무료로 볼 수 있게 되었다.
여수 엑스포를 온라인에서 여수엑스포 SNS 서포터즈들 약 1,500명이 자발적으로 재능기부를 통해서 홍보를 하고 있다. 2002년 월드컵 축구에서 보여준 것처럼 전국의 각 지역에서 서포터즈들이 보이지 않게 여러 가지 모양으로 응원을 하고 있다.
조은비 학생도 3개월간 고스란히 시간을 투자한 것을 무료 배포하게 되었다.
중학생 저자의 작은 도전은 아름답다.
작은 날개 짓이 여수 엑스포의 성공적인 개최가 될 수 있기를 바라는 마음이다.
